The rural healthcare industry is routinely under served, as any resident of a rural area can tell you. Even for simple things like birthing children, rural residents must often travel more than an hour to get to a suitable hospital. This is exactly the sort of dangerous inconvenience that Ray Shoemaker is trying to avoid through his company, Rural Healthcare Developers, which seeks to bring technology and modernization to the rural healthcare industry.
One of the most respected individuals in the healthcare industry is Ray Shoemaker. This is because he has proven, time and time again, that he has the drive necessary to get things accomplished. The founder of Rural Healthcare Developers has spent most of his life working in the healthcare industry. He’s also one of the few industry professionals who have actively sought solutions to the problem of lacking healthcare in rural areas.
Healthcare Pioneer – Ray Shoemaker
From his early days as director of Behavioral Health Perspectives/Horizons Mental Health Management in the Tri-Peaks medical center in Batesville to his current role with Rural Healthcare Developers, Ray Shoemaker has always been at the fore of providing high quality medical healthcare to those that need it. In his current role, he is able to provide much needed quality healthcare to those that live in rural areas as well as those that live in the big cities, something that he realized was a necessity while growing up in rural Walnut Grove.
Ray himself attributes much of his success, which includes being awarded the title of Turnaround King by Memphis Business Journal and receiving the Up And Comer’s award from the Modern Healthcare magazine, to his time in the United States Army when he rose the rank of Captain. This leadership skills, acquired during his time in the forces, has also led to Ray Shoemaker penning a book on leadership and it has also helped him establish and improve the healthcare institutions that he has worked for.
As well as turning the fortunes of a local, poor performing healthcare center in North Mississippi, Ray Shoemaker is attributed with nearly tripling the revenue of the Tri-Lakes Medical Center Behavioral Health Center from $23 million to $64 million. Following these successes, Ray Shoemaker went back to his roots in order to establish Rural Healthcare Providers and help ensure that everybody, no matter what type of community they live in, has access to high quality healthcare.
